May 25th update
I must apologize as I do not have Carrie's ability to lighten the mood and impact in passing on updates. Nor do I have her strength and focus to remember all of the medical and technical mumbo jumbo. Hannah was readmitted to Children's last night with a very high fever. They were able to get the fever down, but it resurfaced later. Hannah has had a terrible headache that is so severe she can not move her head. The doctors think it may be a form of meningitis or that the leukemia has made it's way into her spinal column, where it has not been seen previously. She is not responding to the current chemotherapy regimen, but is suffering from all of the side affects. Her test results have been mixed and somewhat confusing. Sorry that I am not better at sugar coating, but this is very hard for me. I have to just spit it out. I'm sure my accuracy in relating everything has been somewhat compromised by my emotions. I am constantly amazed at Carrie's fortitude, perseverance and composure. She is an incredible mother who is going to carry her daughter through this battle. Thank you all for your concern and support of Hannah and Carrie!

I struggle to find words that mean anything in the face of what Hannah is going through. I know I speak for many when I say that I wish there was SOMETHING I could do to take away just a little bit of Hannah's pain and suffering right now, even just one ounce. I wish I could.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand the suffering, but I do know this: Hannah's spirit is bubbly and light and delightful, like a babbling brook in the mountains, fresh with life, and all the joy of wildness and nature. I love thinking of her laugh, which I can hear clearly in my head: it's a good laugh. I love thinking of her strength and raw courage and the fearlessness I've seen in her at times. I've gotten to watch her on the play equipment and the huge Bouncy Tent! She's a wild girl!
I don't have any idea how life works, and why there is suffering, but I do know this - Hannah's spirit is wonderful, bright, positive, funny, cheerful, curious, silly, giggly, brave and very creative. I vote for Hannah. I am sending love and white light and healing energy in every way I can to Hannah, Carrie and Galen and all close. I wish I could do more - for now, I send love in big bunches. I know I speak for many when I say that. Hope you can feel the love coming from so many.
We miss you.

Chris and I are entertaining friends, and we all stopped to say a prayer for Hannah tonight. I know that Carrie is strong, brilliant and positive. I am betting the apple didn't fall far from the tree and Hannah has an invincible spirit. Life is not fair, and all we can do is embrace each moment.
