Hannah Update

The headaches have gone and Hannah is doing much better. She had a very normal day. No throwing up, no pain, no pain medication, and no fevers.

Her improvement couldn't have come at a better time, too. It snowed here in Western Washington. As anyone from Seattle can tell you, when it snows here, you stay away from the roads. We don't get large amounts of dry snow. We get an inch or so and roads that are solid ice. Getting to the hospital in these conditions would be very dangerous.

Today the roads were so bad that I couldn't get to work and the boys school was closed. So, we all got to stay home and play. Hannah had a fantastic time, other than being bummed everytime they went outside to play. She took not being able to join them fairly well, considering.

I wanted to thank every one for your support last week. It really does mean so much to us.

I left my camera in the car and forgot to take pictures of everyone in the snow. I will have to update this later with snow pictures!

Snow pic update; Aaron and Hannah on Thanksgiving. Third day of the snow, so, not much left. Yet, still suprising for our area!

  1. I was praying for you guys yesterday, when the snow fall was super heavy! I'm sorry the day was a bit hectic. Glad the headaches are gone! I've had just a few yucky head aches and hated them; made me completely ill all day long. I tend to get vertigo type head aches, which is ug.

We're praying for Hannah! Hoping to meet her soon!

  2. Hello Carrie
Thanks for your comment on my snow pic. I look forward to seeing yours. I should tell you it was taken when me and my dad were making the daily journey to see my mum in hospital (she's fighting brain cancer). It was the last time in the world we needed snow, so I really feel for you in this weather, hope you are getting Hannah there ok. Glad she is feeling a little better x

  7. hi U dont know me, my name is Mary ann .
I found your blog while trying to google search whats going on with my son. My son also has ALL. We are currently in the hospital . He has done very well with treatment untill this week. He had a LP last Thursday He started having very painful headaches and on Sat. he started running a fever. The Dr has ruled out the flu and a a infection.
Today is Tuesday morning and his very last dose of Ara C was on Sunday. Our Dr said that he thought it was from the ara c and he should feel better after 24 hrs. and its been 40 hrs. He was given 2 units of blood yesterday . We were told that would make him feel better too. Well he felt better last night untill the meds wore off and now the fever and headaches are back. They just gave him some more meds.
When I read ur blog on another site it brought me here. I was glad to find someone that had the same thing going on. Please tell me that this too will pass. and that its nothing other than the ara c. How long did ur little girl have the fevers and headaches?
He goes back this week for his last peg shot and vincresteen . I am so happy the weekly chemo is almost over. we will start going monthly. But with him being sick I am wishing we didnt have to do the peg shots in only three days. I look forward to hearing from u.
Thank u for your message and advise. Please email me at

thanks u and God bless U and your family.

  8. Hi Mary Ann,
First, I am so sorry to hear about your son. I am assuming he is in the DI phase? Ara-C is given as well as Cyclophosphamide in a four in a row pattern. Is that what he just finished?
So, if the headache is in his forehead and sinus it could also be from the cyclophosphamide, which is the drug they give in a six hour push. If he is getting that headache, it will burn, so ask the nurse to have the push slowed down to help that.
As far as the headaches go, Hannah had them for a little over a week and then they went away. Her fevers were off and on, but not consistant. How high are his fevers? If not on a fever reducer do they climb unabated or do they plateau? Has he been checked for C-diff? It is an often overlooked infection in the gut, but your son would have bad diarrhea.
To help with the pain, she was given Lorazepam, (also an anti-nausea med) to take a half an hour after oxy. It interacts well with the narcotic, helping increase pain relief.
I was bummed about giving her more chemo at that point too. It turned out to be just fine. Although, with the peg the chance of alergic reaction increases with every dose given. They should have you watched afterward for a hour to make sure an algeric reaction doesn't occur.
I hope this helps and doesn't sound too bossy! Good luck. We will pray for your little man.
    Carrie
